                      Next session March 13th 2012!

Bellydance is great form of exercise but our classes are not fitness classes. They are are dance technique classes. It is recommended that students register and attend the entire session to get the most out of class.
Our classroom is a friendly and encouraging environment where students are encouraged to be themselves and not feel pressured to look or be a certain way. It is not a place for "social hour" but for learning and growing. 'Azraa provides constructive feedback and encouragement to help students grow.
*Students are always encouraged to do plenty of socializing after class. Please feel free to invite the instructor :)

Why should you choose Bluegrass Bellydance?

                      Where are classes?
In Owensboro - The Cottage on Hill, 309 Hill Avenue, just off Frederica behind the Marathon,
click here for map and directions The door to enter is just up the little driveway, there is a big sign that says YOGA in the window.

How much are classes? and how do I pay?
You can buy a class card which is $80 for 8 classes. It does not have to be used for 8 in a row, just get it signed when you come to class. You can pay at the first class by cash, check or credit card or you can pay via paypal here. There is a fee for paying online via paypal and with a credit card at class.

What is a session? What if I can't come to every class? Classes run in an 8 week cycle. In that 8 weeks it is my goal to teach a certain set of skills or movements. Don't worry if you can't come every week, even though it is strongly recommended.

Who can take Middle Eastern Dance? Does my age, weight or fitness level matter?
Classes are open to ages 16 and up, all fitness levels and body types. There are professional dancers of many ages, sizes and shapes. If you have a health concern please consult your doctor before doing this or any exercise program. It is possible to perform most of the moves at any level or to modify the moves to fit your level.

BUT I have never taken a dance class before?
No problem! Bellydance Basics is designed for students who have no bellydance experience and students with no dance experience at all.

                      What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothing such as yoga or work out gear. Classes are done barefoot, in socks, or in dance shoes (such as jazz slippers, or dance sneakers - no street shoes permitted).

What do I need to bring?
A bottle of water is recommend and a good attitude is required.

What about props and those jingly scarfs?
I will have a variety of scarves for purchase or you may order one elsewhere and wear it to class. They are not required.
In beginner classes, props will be supplied to use in class. Advanced level classes will be required to purchase props if they are needed.

Where can I find the music used in class?
Some of the music used in class is available at
Bellydance Downloads. I may use music in class that I do not exactly know the origin of, but choreographies and music needed for practice will always be available online or from a major music outlet.

Can my daughter take class with me?
Classes for children are not currently offered. Teens 16 and up are welcome in our current group classes.

Can my husband or boyfriend come to see the class?
No. It makes some students uncomfortable to have observers in class. You are welcome to show your family what you learned when you get home.

Will I be required to perform?
Absolutely not! No one is ever required to perform if they don't want to. We will have an annual student recital for friends and family. Other performance opportunities may arise and they will be on a volunteer basis at the discretion of the instructor.

But what if I want to perform?
It is my goal to offer performance opportunities to my students through regular recitals. Bluegrass Bellydance hosts one every spring and students will be invited to dance at Evansville Bellydance's showcase every fall.

When can I move up to a more advanced class?
The choreography class moves at a faster pace than the Bellydance Basics class and whenever you feel like you have all the basics and want a challenge you can move up. Bellydance Basics students may sit in on the Choreography Class for free, in order to determine if they want to move up.

Who is Barefoot in the Grass?
Barefoot in the Grass is the student repertory group of Bluegrass Bellydance. It is made up of students in the choreography class.
